Final Story Lineup -- Read Carefully!

Ok folks... Take a big breath (I'm still holding mine). Let's see if we can file our stories and coordinate art on deadline for this issue.

Writers should get the stories or columns to their editors (columnists to Daniela, reporters to Becky, creative content/photos to Jeff) by SUNDAY MAR 25, 5 P.M., so we have a firm story count for our 6 p.m. editorial meeting.

Writers who do so will have a chance to see/respond to the editors' edits before they submit final drafts to me on Tues.

The *only* exception to this is our Benefit Concert coverage by Claire/Nate.

Production run will be Thurs.

Any questions, email me at wworkman@aol.com or post here.

Good Luck with your Missions!

-Will

Tues update

Well, it's so nice to feel like I'm talking to myself... (jk!)

If y'all take a look at today's Wisc State Journal, front section, there are a number of items to note.

For anyone interested in doing some investigative reporting, there's a front page story about open records laws, a key weapon in investigations.

For Daniela, note how the front page story coordinates with the main editorial. Also, note the number of possible stories that could be the basis for our April editorial.

Jeff, check out the editorial font (bigger than regular news story) and layout.

Hannah, big A7 story on VA Hospital internal investigation. Madison's VA Hospital has until Wed (tomorrow!) to report compliance. You should track developments on this front and look for an angle you can report that's outside the daily news coverage.

Oroki, sorry I spaced on listing your news story on Bobby Seale talk at Edgewood. I'll include it on the updated story assignment.

Thanks all! Look forward to your comments. Chime in so I don't feel so lonely!

Ok folks, here's the tentative lineup for the April issue. Still working on word counts, so stay tuned for that.

This list does *not* included regular column submissions (e.g. Rocky, Bobkat, Elliott, etc.). Note that columnist should strive to comment on subject material relevant to monthly theme.

April Theme: April Fools/Peace

News Story - Street Pulse Benefit Concert 3/28 - anyone?
News Story - Peace Conference 3/17 - Colin (story), Megan (photo?)
News Story - Preview: Greeks to Spend Night in a Box 4/26 - Anna
News Analysis - Whither the War? (Will?)
Feature Story - Are Local Vets Receiving Their Benefits? - Hannah
Feature Story - UW Teaches Course on Homelessness - Anna
Editorial - Are We All April Fools? - Daniela
Opinion - Hoovervilles and Beyond: The History of Box Cities - Daniela
Film Review - Letters from Iwo Jima - Jon
Arts Preview - Inappropriate Laughter (Oroki's performance 5/12/07) - Becky

We still need a reporter for Item #1 (Hannah, Anna?)

I've sent out invitations to all herein listed (except Colin so far, so I need his email) to post as authors on this blog. We are striving to use this space to coordinate our editorial efforts more effectively, especially in between weekly Sunday editorial meetings.

Also, please try to coordinate art/graphics for each of these, or at least keep those in mind, pending space limitations.

See you all Sunday at 6 p.m., Steep & Brew
